Play of the Week

As a life-long NY Knicks fan it was tough watching Atlanta Hawks guard seal the victory away from the team yesterday. But I should be used to it by now you would think..

I mean Jordan and the Bulls did it for o many years, Reggie miller and The Pacers made it their mission to make sure the Knicks suffered and how can we forget those incredible rivalries with the Miami Heat.

No I'm not gonna wallow in this loss but take it as a its a playoff birth for a franchise that has been down for so long.

Without waiting any longer here is the upsetting first playoff game since 2013 for those Knickerbockers.

PS- Watch now Trae Young is gonna turn into another Knicks nemesis.

Play of the Week

So this is not just one play but just pure domination by NY Mets pitcher Jacob DeGrom. Unfortunately he plays for a team that either can't score runs or a bullpen that can't hold leads. He starts the season with an 0-1 record. ER at 0.64 and 21 strikeouts. Think about those numbers for a second and realize this man has no wins after 2 starts.

The Mets better figure it out quickly because his greatness won't be here forever.

Play of the Week

Anthony Edwards rookie season is starting to show why he was chosen #1 overall.

This dunk right here makes you realize maybe you shouldn't get in his way when en-route to the basket.

I know this is from February but I think it can win play of  the week a month later.

Drew Brees Calls it a Career

AP

One of the greatest quarterbacks of all-time has decided to hang up his cleats.

In a video posted to his Instagram account the future hall of famer touched on his long and storied 20-year career.

"After 20 years as a player in the NFL and 15 years as a Saint, it is time I retire from the game of football. Each day, I poured my heart & soul into being your Quarterback..."

Brees was accompanied in the video by his 4 children who have been seen on the field catching passes from their dad before games this season.

A horrific injury in 2006 suffered while under center for the San Diego Chargers almost ended his career.

But a new start in New Orleans a city reeling from the after effects of Hurricane Katrina was a perfect match.

Culminating in winning Super Bowl 44 over the Indianapolis Colts.

The list of accomplishments are too long to list but here are a few:

All-time leader in pass yards at 80,035 and first ever to reach 80,000 for their career.

Twelve consecutive season of passing for over 4,000 yards.

First player with over 7,000 completions.

He definitely knows how to get into the end zone as he had 54 straight games with a t least a touchdown pass.

And is second all-time in passing touchdowns at 571 to arguably the greatest QB ever Tom Brady's 581.

FROM THE MIND OF RB:
I said it before and I will say it again Dew Brees had one of the greatest and most underrated Quarterback career of all-time! If you think I'm wrong can you name one time you had a QB discussion and anyone picked Brees? Don't worry I'll wait. Unless you played for the Saints or his wife and kids I don't think anyone would have picked him. Its not his fault he played in an era of Brady, Peyton Manning, Russell Wilson and Aaron Rogers. But with that being said he will go down as one of the greats and boy did he play hurt, punctured lungs, broken ribs. He was a true gamer and one day he will have his day in Canton.

Play Of The Week

With the NFL playoffs underway, the NHL is weeks away from their All-Star break, the NBA season is just nearing the halfway mark and the college football champion was crowned last night (congrats to the Alabama Crimson Tide).

Needless to say there were a few choices for top spot this week but since I could not decide one here are all the finalist that blew my mind.

1) Martavis Bryant, WR- Pittsburgh Steelers

This catch is all types of crazy! He flips keeps two feet in bounds and still manages to hold onto the football. I'm speechless!

 2) Russell Wilson, QB- Seattle Seahawks

He just saved not only his center but the entire season with this heads up play. Like the late Stuart Scott used to say cooler than the other side of the pillow."

 3) Steph Curry, G- Golden State Warriors

I'm not even going to write anything, just watch the play.

 4) Kristaps Porzingis, F- New York Knicks

He is well on his way to contending not only for rookie of the year but also getting the Knicks into the playoffs. But before he does that he has to throw something down.

5) National Title Game- #2 Alabama Crimson Tide vs #1 Clemson Tigers

This is by far the best title game I have ever seen. It lived up to the hype that most games seem to never capitalize on. So many outstanding performances that I just wanted to post the entire game!

Mike Piazza and Ken Griffey Jr. Elected To The 2016 Baseball Hall of Fame

Two of the greatest players to ever put on a pair of cleats got that call you dream of as a little kid growing playing ball on dirt fields or stick ball on city streets.

One was the "Kid" who made the game look so easy it was laughable at times. The other drafted in the 62nd round who turned himself into one of the greatest hitting catchers of all-time.

I'm not going to run through all their stats here but what I will do is describe my love affair with a game that started way before I ever knew who Mike Piazza was.

Growing up as Mets' fan was tough because the Yankees owned NYC. A season in which the Mets missed the playoffs by a game (those were unbearable) was a good year.

I had to deal with jokes My Entire Team Sucks (Mets), what does it take for the Mets to win a World Series? A good team. And the list goes on and on.

But in 1998 something changed and it all started with this Pizza guy coming to town. Its not a typo I thought when the team traded for him that his name was spelled like my favorite meal.

At that point I was in junior high school and losing was something the team from Queens was good at. But even though he struggled in his first at-bats there was something brewing that got a fan base excited.

Whether it was helping the team make the World Series in 2000 only to fall to that team from the Bronx, to help mount an amazing comeback against the Atlanta Braves at Shea Stadium and to hit on of the most memorable home runs hit after the terrorist attacks on 9/11.

Never having been to Cooperstown my goal was to go the day he was elected to the hall. The first year on the ballot he did not make it. To not only my surprise but most others in baseball. My bags and tickets were packed, metaphorically speaking for Cooperstown at this point. He missed out on the necessary 75% threshold to make the cut. One sportswriter, Bill Madden of the NY Daily News wrote he did not vote for him because "First of all, I’ve always had my suspicions about Piazza, even though he never tested positive nor was he mentioned in the Mitchell Report."

That's like if your teacher gave you detention for cheating. Of course you say I didn't cheat and she tells you she as no proof but because rumors have swirled around about you cheating that that was enough for her.

You have to be kidding me!

But four years later he has been vindicated. Is it possible that he may have used PHD (performance enhancing drugs) at some point? Yeah but there is no proof of it and that's what we have to go on.

I will do my darndest to be there to see him enshrined into the Hall of Fame and scream and applaud until I lose my voice. Thank you Mike for all the memories!

Play Of The Week

While watching the Giants throw away a great chance to ice away the NFC East, wideout Odell Beckham Jr. made another highlight reel play. Some of you may argue this catch is close to the one he made last year against the Dallas Cowboys. You see that play here:

But not to leave out his division foe the Redskins he decides to gave them a little taste of what he is capable of.

I hope these displays of athleticism never gets old because as Chris Collinsworth said "Oh my goodness."
